BMW X6 - The unofficial home
All
you need to know and all the developments, as they happen
The all new BMW X6, unveiled and revealed by BMW at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September of last year is the Bavarian firm's latest model designed under the watchful eye of its renowned head of design, Chris Bangle. With latest interpretation of the 'flame surfacing' interaction of convex and concave curves, the BMW X6 signals the arrival on the international market of the first crossover coupe/SUV, referred to by BMW as an SAV, a Sports Activity Vehicle.
It promises the practicality of an SUV with the looks, performance and feel of a sports coupe. Destined for customers looking for that little extra space and load lugging ability without forsaking the svelte appearance and draw of a classic coupe silhouette, BMW hopes the X6 will tick all the boxes for a large majority of current SUV drivers.
Packed with technology, the BMW X6 will showcase the best the firm has to offer with a whole complement of technological marvels aimed at enhancing the user's experience and maximising the car's green credentials. The technology on offer includes BMW's Dynamic Performance Control, Adaptive Drive, Air Vent Control, reduced roll resistance tyres and, the piece de resistance, BMW's ActiveHybrid technology, BMW's first commercially available hybrid application.
With a large range of engines being offered, the X6 looks set to offer the right mix of performance and practicality. Two petrol engines will be on offer, one already the subject of much critical acclaim and, as with most of BMW's efforts of recent years, a brand new twin turbo V8 petrol developing 407bhp sure to attract rave reviews. Two 3.0l diesel engines will be on offer from launch as well as, eventually joined by the ActiveHybrid engine in early 2009.
Due to be launched in Europe in March this year, demand is set to be high as the novelty of the design concept takes the stalwart BMW customers by surprise and attracts a newer, more dynamic BMW following.
