BMW X6 - The design
The Concept
A Sports Activity Vehicle, or SAV, BMW introduces a new concept in luxury 4X4s, a coupe/SUV crossover that's a first on the international scene. Currently with no competition, the BMW X6 has this niche of the market all to itself, its blend of practicality and pure sporting aesthetic reaching out to the needs of those in need of that little added everyday usability with the sense of occasion, look, feel and drive of the Sunday sports car. A consummate all-rounder, the latest vehicle to emerge from the BMW bloodline, the ultimate driving experience, corresponds to BMW's strict performance design guidelines.
The Exterior
Sculpted in accordance with BMW's flame surfacing, convex/concave curve design language, Pierre Leclerque, the man in charge of the exterior design of the car rightly confirms that there's nothing 'out there' like the BMW X6. The dynamically rising contours along the side of the car help visualise the wedge of the sportscar origins of the design. The wide front, with the largely flared BMW grille, aggressive stance and muscular wheel arches all work together to pull off the design brief of sports activity vehicle.
The Interior
With up to 'four golf bags worth' of loading space, the new BMW X6 can lug around a maximum of 1,450l in its generously proportioned and cavernous boot space. As practical as they come with the added image of a coupe, the cabin is a luxurious place to be, with high quality materials throughout. The BMW X6 has been designed to accomodate four adults in comfort, eschewing the some of the car's practicality in favour of comfort and exclusivity. Headroom in the rear is said to me more generous than in the majority of most medium range saloons, which is an achievement considering the sleek sloping coupe curves of the roofline. The driver and front passenger are treated to BMW's effective and classy dashboard/cockpit layout with additional kneepads on the lower parts of the dashboard for extra comfort. The balance of functionality and style is just so, giving the driver the commanding, elevated view of the road from within the cocoon-like environment of the cabin.
