Everything about the new BMW X6 engines

With a full complement of modern and efficient turbo driven petrol and diesel engines, the new BMW X6 will offer something for everyone.

Petrol

The BMW X6 will be available with the critically acclaimed 3.0 straight six twin-turbo petrol engine originally showcased in 2007's BMW 335i Coupe and then added to the brand new 135i Coupe. Developing over 300bhp and over 300 lbft of torque, the straight six is so responsive you'll hardly know its turbo charged.  Power and strength throughout the rev range, refined and smooth, the innovative direct injection system and lean burn characteristics of the engine make for a high performance engine without the high performance drain on the wallet. A performance engine without a drinking problem.

The all new twin turbo 4.4l V8 builds on the experience BMW has gained from the 3.0 flat six, with the engine developing 407bhp, with the turbos arranged, for the first time, in the v-space of the engine.  This engine will propel the new BMW X6 to 60mph (100km/h) in just 5.4 seconds and on to a regulated top speed of 155mph (250km/h).

BMW will be offering two diesels, both of them twin turbo 3.0l engines, one developing 235bhp and the other, in a higher state of tune, developing 286bhp.  The six cylinder diesel engines are a class act in refinement, flexibility, strength and economy and will no doubt prove the most popular option in the European market.

BMW's first hybrid engine

Finally, BMW has announced the arrival in 2009 of the first hybrid engine to appear in a BMW, bringing the german car maker up to speed with other luxury car makers offering a hybrid version of their cars, particularly Lexus.
